Sonia Koren is a media creative working across editorial and digital media. Her work combines research, development, and production to create engaging content across written, visual, and multimedia formats.
Sonia works across editorial and multimedia production, with a Master’s in Journalism and an undergraduate background in Film and Media. Her experience spans research, production support, visual development, and creative collaboration, contributing to projects from concept development through to production and final delivery.
Sonia works across editorial writing and reporting, with experience producing features for The Tab and Between the Covers Magazine. Her work includes conducting interviews, researching stories, and developing cultural and editorial pieces exploring storytelling, identity, and lived experience.
She has also worked in news reporting with West Leeds Dispatch, covering community-focused issues in Leeds through field reporting, interviews, and story development.
Editorial & Narrative
Sonia has experience in video production and digital content creation, including filming, editing, and producing multimedia work for both editorial and marketing contexts. She contributed to a recruitment campaign via Beckett Now for Leeds Beckett University Rugby, developing promotional storytelling content and conducting interviews with UCLA athletes as part of the campaign production.
Sonia also assisted with makeup and art direction on Kasador’s award-winning music video ‘Lock On’, which received the Kingston Canadian Film Festival Favourite Music Video award.
Additionally, Sonia’s production experience includes assisting on film sets, photo shoots, and creative projects, contributing to makeup, set decoration, and production support. Her work includes student film and documentary projects, including the documentary Spring of ’80, music video productions involving special effects makeup, and assisting with the launch campaign for weaf’s first collection, supporting both campaign video production and photography.
Complementing her production work, Sonia developed a strong interest in screenwriting, creating original scripts exploring character, structure, and visual storytelling.
Media & Production
Earlier experience includes writing and editing for Her Campus, where she developed and refined lifestyle and culture content for a student audience. She has also worked in video production with Alma Mater Society Studio Q, creating and editing filmed content for campus events and promotional use.
Alongside this, Sonia’s experience includes contributing written content for Hillel Queens on social justice themes, delivering a guest lecture at Queen’s University on intersectionality in media and cultural narratives, and working as a research assistant in a law firm, supporting research and analysis across case materials and producing structured written outputs.
She also completed a dissertation examining Black-British media spaces, focusing on how Black women journalists use storytelling to challenge dominant narratives across print and digital platforms. As part of her undergraduate major project, she created a children’s book, writing and illustrating an original narrative exploring visual storytelling, structure, and audience engagement for younger readers.
Outside of her creative work, Sonia enjoys travelling and exploring new places, having travelled across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. She also enjoys cooking and discovering new cuisines, bringing curiosity and cultural exploration into her everyday life.
